Ah, ‘the eternal witnessing’… To those of you first joining us for our weekly Awakening Talk Radio broadcasts, a question may come to mind – “what is this eternal witnessing?” Great question! The ‘eternal witnessing’ is that which is unaffected by all that occurs on the surface of our daily lives. When we fight ‘what is,’ we are only creating more tension, more dissatisfaction. When even Mick Jagger from the Rolling Stones has trouble getting ‘satisfaction,’ you can imagine what we’re up against--or not… Being in touch with ‘what is,’ is joining the ‘eternal witnessing’ that everything is a part of--that which everything emanates from. Please join us this week as we discuss the acceptance of ‘what is’ as the basis to experience the ‘eternal witnessing’ and come fully into that stillness/presence/oneness that is always here, our birthright to embrace and enjoy. Wait a moment… my toddler is repeating something over and over, pointing and jumping up and down… I need to accept/address the situation, but I’m smiling.
Join the dynamic Dayna Steele, author of Rock To The Top - What I Learned About Success From The World's Greatest Rock Stars. Honored by Billboard Magazine as Local Radio Personality of the Year in 1996, Steele was also included in Talkers Magazine's 100 Most Important Radio Talk Show Hosts. Steele spent years traveling the globe and interviewing countless bands and rock stars like Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Ozzy Osbourne, David Bowie, Bono and Sammy Hagar...to name a few. The great music and insights bestowed upon Steele by these rock legends were what inspired Rock to the Top. Since leaving the airwaves she has gone on to head up a successful marketing and public relations firm, a space-related e-commerce company and SmartGirlsRock.com - an online community for girls destined to be tomorrow's leaders, scientists, mathematicians and engineers.
Join Jacqueline Foreman when she interviews author Bill German who wrote Under Their Thumb: How a Nice Boy from Brooklyn Got Mixed Up with the Rolling Stones (and Lived to Tell About It.) For 17 years, German recorded the comings and goings of the Rolling Stones in his fanzine Beggars Banquet; in this surprising memoir, German documents his relationship with the band. German's fandom with the Stones began when he was 12. When he heard songs like Bitch and Sweet Virginia, he was inexplicably hooked on the band's music, and he envied the DJs who got to play their music and the journalists who covered the band. By the time he was 16, German had decided to produce a newsletter devoted to his favorite group, printing the first 100 copies of Beggars Banquet on his Brooklyn high school's mimeograph machine in 1978. Although his classmates were unenthusiastic (they were more interested in disco and Saturday Night Fever than Exile on Main Street), the Stones and their management eventually became aware of German's efforts. By 1983, the Stones wanted to make Beggars Banquet the official fanzine of their fan club and stuffed the record sleeves of their new release, Undercover, with it. When the Stones' manager reneged on his promise of payment, German learned a hard business lesson and ended the arrangement, but he never lost his affection for the band. He chronicles his close relationships with Keith Richards and Ron Woods (with whom he coauthored a book) as well as his lukewarm relationship with Mick. Richards emerges from German's memoir as a sweet and loving guy, while Jagger appears an arrogant prima donna who has little time for his band mates or his family.
Mick Jagger, meet Jack Hayford. These are the worlds spanned by musician and pastor Jimi Calhoun, who uses his experiences in both arenas to help readers dissect racial relation issues. Tonight the Unstoppable Frankie Picasso is joined by Pastor Jimi Calhoun, author of "A Story of Rhythm and Grace: What the Church Can Learn from Rock and Roll about Healing the Racial Divide". Before becoming a pastor, Calhoun played bass for major recording acts and performed on stage with prominent artists such as Jimi Hendrix, Etta James, Hank Williams Jr., John Lennon, and Elton John. In his book, Jimi combines colorful illustrations from the rock-and-roll world with stories from his life as a pastor to show how he has succeeded as a bridge builder between cultures. As he interweaves personal stories with reflections on race, Calhoun challenges Christians (and dare I say others) to reach out for racial healing and reconciliation and offers hope for racial harmony in the church and in the broader culture. Tonight is a very special 90 minute Show. Please join in along with my panel of experts as we discuss the topic of Church, Religeon, race and how we can heal the past and pave way for a racial harmony. Joining us will also be, Chad Dion Lassiter,President Black Men at Penn School of Social Work, Dr. Paula Matabane,Communications professor at Howard University and independent filmmaker, her latest Faithfully Divided, Latayne Scott, former Mormon and author of 15 books including The Mormon Mirage, Rev. David Izenbart of Living Springs Community Church, a multicultural Church in Il.

Ruby James sits comfortably in the space between darkness & light. Her sultry (and mesmerizing) vocals bring her universal tales of love, loss and redemption to life, while her rugged sensuality, which bravely masks a wearied vulnerability, opens the coldest of hearts. Her forthcoming album "Happy Now" (produced by Charlie Sexton, co-produced by Will Sexton) is a stunning follow up to 2008's "Desert Rose" which included "Everything Good Goes Away" that was prominently featured in the film "The Women"(produced by Mick Jagger). Ruby has shared the stage with the likes of Jackson Browne, Patty Griffin, Victoria Williams, Jim Lauderdale, Raul Malo, Jane Weidlin and Pat MacDonald (Timbuk 3).

Don’t be fooled into thinking that female-fronted bands can’t rock – The Blind Spots’ electrifying lead vocalist and force of nature Maddy Walsh can hang with the best of them, finding inspiration in artists such as Mick Jagger, Freddie Mercury, Otis Redding, Björk, John Lennon, and Etta James, to name a few. Returning to New York from grad school in California where she honed her craft of poetry and lyric writing, Walsh met guitarist and singer / songwriter Mike Suave. The two began collaborating as a folk duo, but the idea for the project evolved quickly, and they added bassist Khris Oursler, keyboard player David Openshaw, and drummer Jeff Turback, allowing them to begin writing songs with greater power and spectrum. Armed with a full rock band, Walsh and Suave dove out of the coffee houses headfirst into the late-night club scene, and the young audiences are happy they’re here.

What will happen when we are gone? Do you ever think about what life will be like in 30 years? Of course, we expect to still be here, still driving hot cars (or at least a Hoverround with nitrus attached), still rocking and going to concerts (how old wil Mick Jagger be then?). But reality doesnt really work like that. Do you wonder who will be taking care of business while we are taking Senior Yoga lessons? Its worth thinking about...
